1) Rs.1,000

2) Rs.2,000

3) Rs.3,000

4) Rs.4,000

Answer: 1

EXP:
1.2 X 1.25 X 0.6666 X CP = 1000 => CP = 1000 (profits of 20%, 25% & loss of 33.33%)

The manufacturing cost of a watch is Rs.180 and the transportation lost is Rs.500 for 100 watches. What will be the selling price if it is sold at 20% gains

The manufacturing cost of a watch is Rs.180 and the transportation lost is Rs.500 for 100 watches. What will be the selling price if it is sold at 20% gains

1) Rs.222

2) Rs.216

3) Rs.221

4) Rs.220

Answer: 1

EXP:
Total cost of a watch = 180 + (500/100) = 185.
    Gain = 20% => SP = 1.2CP = 1.2 X 185 = 222

Arun purchased a house for Rs.75,000 and a site for Rs.15,000 respectively, if he sold the house for Rs.83,000 and the site for Rs.10,000, then find the resultant percentage of gain?

1) 3%

2) 31/3%

3) 30%

4) 331/3%

Answer: 1

EXP:
Total CP = 90000 & total SP = 93000 => gain = SP/CP = 93000/90000 =1.0333 = 3.33%

30% loss on cost price in what percent loss on selling price?

30% loss on cost price in what percent loss on selling price?

1) 30%

2) 20%

3) 15%

4) None of these

Answer: 4

EXP:

Loss = 30% on CP i.e., 0.3CP => SP = 0.7CP
Loss % on SP = loss/SP X 100 = 0.3CP/0.7CP X 100 = 42.85%.

P sold an article for Rs.1,080 thereby losing 10% Q sold another article for Rs.1,800 at a loss of 10%. Who incurred a greater loss?

P sold an article for Rs.1,080 thereby losing 10% Q sold another article for Rs.1,800 at a loss of 10%. Who incurred a greater loss?

1) P

2) Q

3) Cannot say

4) Both have equal

Answer: 2

EXP: For P, SP=1080 and loss=10% => CP = 1080/0.9 =1200 => loss = 1200-1080 = 120.
    For Q, SP=1800 and loss=10% => CP = 1800/0.9 = 2000 => loss = 2000-1800 = 200.

The profit obtained by selling an article for Rs.56 is the same as the loss obtained by selling it for Rs.42. What is the cost price of the article?

1) Rs.40

2) Rs.50

3) Rs.49

4) None of these

Answer: 3

EXP: Profit at a price = loss at  other price => CP must be numerically between those prices

CP = (56+42)/2 = Rs. 49.

Class 8 Math Profit and Loss Questions & Answers

Profit and Loss CBSE Class 8th Questions with Answer:

  1. Wheat is cheaper than rice by 20%. By what percent rice costlier than wheat?

    Sol. Let the price of 1 unit rice = Rs 100
    Then the price of 1 unit of wheat = Rs (100-20) = Rs80
    On Rs 80     excess of price of rice = Rs20
    On Rs 100 excess of price of rice = (20/80    x 100) =  25. i.e., 25%
  2. Rice is costlier than wheat by 20%. By what percent is wheat cheaper than rice?

    Sol. Let the  price of 1 unit of wheat be Rs100
    Then the price of 1 unit of rice = (100+20) = Rs120
    On Rs.120, cheapness of wheat = Rs20
    On Rs 100 cheapness of wheat = ( 20/120   x 100) =  50/3 % = 16  2/3%
  3. If the cost price of 10 articles is equal to the selling price of 8 articles, find the gain or loss percent?

    Sol. Let the CP of each article be Re. 1
    Then CP of 8 articles = Rs 8
    SP of 8 articles = CP of 10 articles  = Rs 10.
    Gain = SP - CP = 10 - 08 = Rs. 2
    Gain =   2/8  x 100 = 25%
  4. If the cost price of 5 pens is equal to the SP of 6 pens find gain or loss % ?

    Sol. Let the CP of each pen be Rs1
    Then CP of 6 pens = Rs. 6.
    SP of 6 pens = CP of 5 pens.  =Rs5.
    Loss  = CP – SP = 6 – 5 = Re. 1
    Loss% = (  1/6  x 100) % = 16  2/3 %
  5. By selling 33 meters of cloth, one gains SP of 11 metres. Find the gain %.

    Sol. Sp of 33 m  —  CP of 33m  = gain
    SP of 33m  – CP of 33m =  SP of 11m
    SP of 33m - SP of 11m = CP of 33m
    SP of 22m = CP of 33m
    Let CP of  each meter be Rs1
    The CP of 22m = Rs22
    SP of 22m = CP of 33m = Rs 33
    Gain = SP -  CP Rs (33-22) = Re. 1
    Gain% =   11/22  x 100=50%
